So I am in the third and final act of Dragon Age 2. The game… is different than DA1. Not worse really, just different. So far the main character isnt saving the world, or even saving anyone really. People are just dead all over. And there really isnt any great peril, unless you count the slowly simmering clashes between opposing political groups to be perilful. So.
It seems that the entire point of the game is to have us play through the intertwining events that shape the overall fate of the city-state of Kirkwall. And that could be fun… for like, history buffs? Or boring people? But I jest. I do actually enjoy the game quite a bit. I like the characters, the voice acting, and think the newly enhanced combat mechanics are awesome.
But. But. Its hard for me to play an RPG… ANY RPG without something to fight against. Some huge nasty villain. I mean at this point, there isnt even a villain at all. No Darth Vader, No Sephiroth, No Archfiend. I find it very hard to keep plodding through all this crushingly boring political goings on when there seems to be really no need of a swashbuckler. I want to kill bad things that are threatening our way of lives! Or maybe rescue a bitch.
Come on game, let me rescue a bitch.
And another point, there is almost no connection to DA1. I mean, its set in the same world, with the same rules, and some of the same players, but it is so far away from what we saw before, it feels detached, like a side story. I want to see whats going on after the Blight was ended. I want to see Dark Spawn. Instead I stomp around the endless streets of a boring city.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention that theres maybe 10 unique locations, tops. Most of which are city. Don’t expect to be exploring the world, or really anything. Kinda disappointing.
Huh, by the end of this, I like DA2 a lot less than I thought. I take it back, it is worse than DA1.
Final Score: 7/10 Golden Boners.
