So I thought inglorious bastards kinda blew.

I think my perception of it blowing stemmed from the nasty trick the commercials played on us- the movie was advertised to be about Brad Pitt and his rowdy boys killing Nazis… and that really doesn’t actually happen that much. Instead we are given a movie that’s mostly about people having conversations in foreign languages… and that’s about it. Now I will agree that a lot of movies have this similar premise (the conversation bit at least) but when watching a Tarantino movie you expect snappy dialogue.. or at least his idea of snappy dialogue…. but when filming a movie that is very much entrenched in its timeframe (being WWII) you cant really have the “wacky” conversations that Tarantino crams into his movies to confuse the audience into thinking they are enjoying themselves. Instead we have awkwardly wooden dialogue delivered by actors who all seem like they wish they were someplace else, in Pulp Fiction perhaps.

To make matters worse, more than half the film focused on some sullen French/Jewish woman. Her story may have been touching for some, but for me it was pure tedium. I could not wait to move on the the next sequence where I would actually (maybe) see some of the god-damned PROMISED nazi killing. All I wanted to do was get my Wolfenstein on for petes sake.

Another issue I have was how little a shit I gave for the fates of these people. There is absolutely ZERO reason we have to feel a single emotion for any character (except maybe the French chick, but she seems so hopped up on painkillers I barely even noticed she was there) so that when everyone does eventually shoot eachother like crazy, I not only didn’t care, but wondered who the people even were. Only ONE of the entire bastard crew was given any sort of backstory, or fleshing out at all… did Tarantino forget that that is usually something that is done? The only time I was engaged in the entire film were in the scenes of violence, which yes, were gruesome. But that wasn’t worth the $12 I paid to get into the theater.

Bottomline I think this movie was a waste of talent and also boring… and not even any boobies to make up for how boring it was.
