why do mmo’s have to be ever-going? how can a good story be incorporated into something that never ends? I think a game, like the supposedly forth coming Knights of the Old Republic mmo could take a new approach to how that genre of game is built. This is the game to have a chance to stand up to World of Warcraft. The Star Wars fan base is monumental and the company behind the game is well known for it’s successes. If they tried something new to set themselves apart, to make them something other than all the other guys in a fresh coat of paint, they could create something great. Instead of playing one person who is apparently immortal, give each player a group like in an offline rpg. That way things get more epic and when you and your fellow players get together, you have a small army that could actually affect the galaxy. And when a character dies, he stays dead. The story and development of your characters will matter. The game could ship with three trilogies, semi planned chunks of story that play out over like four months each, totalling a year of gameplay with fresh story elements for a year, and then expand from there. It would be a new set of chapters in the Star Wars saga that you get t see unfold, that you can be a part of. Your group could be part of infiltration that lead to an infamous dark lord’s demise. I don’t know, that’s just two ideas that could change the stale mmo genre and actually get me interested in signing my life away.

3. I know that wouldn’t work as I described, but that was a quick couple of thoughts I pulled out of the ether. The point is that another stale cookie cutter mmo is not worth it. And a strength of Star Wars that could be applied to that genre is storytelling. And with combat you basically sit back and watch, why not apply that to a cohesive squad you can sculpt rather than a lone warrior who runs around by himself all the time.
