I’ve been catching up on some of the original Xbox’s notable titles. I downloaded Fable through the 360’s marketplace (fully aware it wasn’t including the Lost Chapters but I had nothing to do that night), GameFly’d Beyond Good & Evil (despite that I own a copy somewhere for one system or another) and Psychonauts, and ordered Knights of the Old Republic (only to find out hours later that my brother who I work with owns a copy) and its sequel from Amazon.

There have been some really good Star Wars over the years, hasn’t there? I think the first game I ever really got to play was Dark Forces on my family’s old Mac. That was a great game, in my memory at least. Nothing like throwing thermal detonators and shooting blasters at Gammoreans in first person. Rogue Squadron was amazing when I first got a hold of it on the N64. My older brother bought it for my younger brother and I one christmas, but I soon realized it was just as much a gift for himself as he refused to relinquish the controller. One of the most enjoyable flying games, or any game really of my long gaming career. Linking up your four S-Foils to fire at once on the AT-ST’s coming after your ground caravan was quite a hoot. The N64 also saw Shadows of the Empire which was really cool. Wampas, of different varieties! LEGO Star Wars captured my heart with sheer cute humor and charm; I mean, come on, Chewie could wear a top hat! And now Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is about to be, well, unleashed. I’ve played the demo a few times now. Originally I was a bit let down after reading so much positive hype about it, but it grew on me with each slaughtered rebel the and imperial. I’m as much interested in playing for story as I am for the action. How could Vader hide an apprentice from Palpatine? Then I just get lost in the sheer arcadiness of stringing together attacks against helpless enemies. I think the game is very comparable to a Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden type game. It’s just set in the Star Wars universe. Boosh.

I filled out a bracket over at GameFAQs.com today. It was a difficult experience. I had to remember that I was not voting, that would come later, I was merely guessing at what the majority of people would vote. I realized I hate people. I ended up with Sephiroth defeating Cloud in the final round. Let’s hope my bracket matches up and I win some sweet cash.

Take a stand!

  1. I have Knights of the Old Republic I & II and I would have let you borrow them both.

    Eat it dirtbag!
