So I beat Metal Gear Solid 4 the other day. Here is what I think in simple categories.

LIKE’D
+ Beautiful facial animations and models. Really great.
+ Shooting fools is much better than previous installments.
+ Finally a 3D camera!
+ Strong Narrative, less ridiculous than usual for the series.
+ Variety of settings makes me happy.
+ Loads of weapons…so many that its stupid.
+ Most boss battles are great! Great in like the MGS1 way.
+ Speaking of MGS1, there’s a lot of tie ins in this game. Made my heart happy.
+ Some crazy shit you’ve always wanted to do in a MG game can finally be done!

HATE’D
+ Lotsa shots of Snake’s smooth, firm, ass. SO many that I felt uncomfortable with what the game was trying to do to me.
+There are only 2 Codec numbers you can call. FUCKING TWO. WHAT IF I NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT WILD ANIMALS OR OR LIKE I NEED TO TALK ABOUT HAIKUS.
+ The camera often flips out when you are in a small room.
+ Sneaking is just about unpossible at times… which is redonk in a SNEAKING GAME.
+ The last boss battle is a letdown. Boo-urns.
+ And some of the humor that is crammed down the players throat is horrible. See the comic I’ll put up Friday.

So is the game great? Shit yeah it is. Does it leave me as floored as MGS1 did? No. Is it better than 2? Much. And I never got past the first 20 minutes of 3, so I can’t compare there.

In this day and age it is hard to give a game a grading. As has been brought up by EGM/1UP what exactly is a 10/10? Personally I think a game should only get a 10 if even through all the negatives it is a top of the line, amazing experience, and if when you walk away from it you both feel a sense of accomplishment, and sadness for the experience being over.

With this criteria in mind I would give MGS4 a 9.5/10
